Cherry Dads Funeral

Dawn and Ian are sitting outside a church in Amsterdam, it looks like they are staking out the place like two American cops

Dawn:

Well here we are, at our own sisters [Does Air Quotes] Dads funeral and we're not even allowed to set foot in the church. I wouldn't mind but I bought this as soon as I heard the news [Dawn is dressed black with a black hat with netted vail raised] it's very slimming though.

Jonti:

Did you find any more information on Cherry?

Dawn:

Yes, she wanted to follow in her Dads footsteps and come to Amsterdam, he was an artist too, retired now, well as retired as you can be.

Ian looks at Dawn dissaprovingly

I'm sorry Ian, he used to do a lot of that stuff that Anthony Hopkins used to do.

Jonti:

Picasso

Dawn:

Yes that's him, is it an ear? is it a nose? that kind of stuff, not really my bag, now give me a black and white photo of a young father looking at his beautiful baby boy anyday, now that is art.

Jonti:

How is Cherry?

Dawn:

Well we went for a coffee after and we sat and chatted.I think her and I bonded twenty five percent but to be honest I think she's a bit odd.

Ian:

[Snaps] No she's not!

Dawn:

A bit [uses finger measurement]

Ian:

She's not!

Dawn:

Let's just say she wasn't seventy five percent keen on me.

Ian:

Well how do you expect her to be? You told her that her father wasn't her real father , you turned her world upside down like you did mine. Her whole life has been a big lie. What you're doing is heart breaking. Yes YOU may want to learn more but maybe some people just want to live their lives not knowing.

Dawn:

So what are you saying Ian?

Ian:

I'm saying that you can't break news the way you're doing it. It's a real shock to the system.

Dawn:

And how do you suggest we break the news Ian?

Ian:

Gently, you can't run round Europe like a one man Jeremy Kyle show.

Dawn:

Woman.

Ian:

Woman , man! It's just not right.

Dawn:

But Ian it's not a one woman show, we've got each other and later on we'll grow and grow The Joneses reunited at last.

Ian adjusts something on his arm

Dawn:

What's that Ian?

Ian:

A black arm band

Dawn:

Is it made of cardboard?

Ian:

Yes, I made it myself, cardbard and black marker pen.

Dawn fingers the armband and smells her fingers

Dawn:

It is marker pen [to Jonti] I thought I recognised the smell. He's very creative you know.

Jonti:

So what now?

Dawn:

We wait

Jonti:

And then?

Dawn:

We pounce

Ian:

Dawn we do not pounce, she's going to be the only one there, there is no other family! She is on her own, it's her Dads funeral for Christs sake. her DADS funeral!

Dawn:

But It's not her real Dad.

Ian:

DAWN!

Dawn is quite shocked by Ians outburst, there is an awkward silence.vthey both stare out of the windscreen

Dawn:

[muttered under her breath] but it's not her real Dad though

Ian:

Pardon?

Dawn:

Nothing

Dawn adjusts her vail to cover her face looks out of the window and says nothing.
