Story

EXT. OUTSIDE MOTEL. DAY.

DAWN and IAN get out of the lovely Snowy and begin to walk towards the entrance of the run down Motel. DAWN is striding purposefully, IAN lags behind . IAN is looking down at the ground and when he looks up he stops dead in his tracks.

IAN
Oh No…

DAWN stops and turns around.

DAWN
What's wrong?

IAN
(FEAR)
It's the er…Its the Vending Machine.

DAWN
What about it?

IAN
I can't I…er…I can't go any further. I can't be near it.

DAWN
Why what's the matter with it?

IAN
I just can't.

DAWN
I've seen you use a vending machine at least…

DAWN visibly Thinks.

DAWN (Contd)
Eight times.

IAN
This one's different.

DAWN looks at it, pulls a face and then turns back to IAN.

DAWN
How?

IAN
It sells drinks and food. I'm frightened of them.

DAWN
What?

IAN
It's unnatural. It should either sell drink or food. It's not right.

DAWN
Don't be stupid now Ian, come on, it can't hurt you.

DAWN walks back to the frozen IAN and takes his hand. She begins to walk forward but IAN refuses to move. DAWN begins to
lose her patience.

DAWN (CONTD)
What are you going to do Ian? Stand there all night?

IAN
No I'll sleep in the car.

DAWN
I'm not spending another night in the car. Spacious that it is.

IAN
You don't have to. I'll just sleep in the car.

DAWN
Oh no. I'm not having you moaning your tired all day tomorrow,
or that your neck hurts. It's not healthy to keep sleeping the car, you should come
inside and sleep with your sister like a normal human being.

IAN shakes his head.

IAN
It's no good, just go.

DAWN
No, you listen to me, we're combatting this fear. We're combatting it right now.

IAN
How. You can't move it. It's too big.

DAWN
You can't be afraid of what you can't see.

IAN
What about radiation?

DAWN
You can do this Ian. We can do this. Together.

DAWN races over to the vending machine and splays herself infront of it, blocking it.

IAN
I've got it Ian, It can't hurt you now. Come on!

IAN takes a small step forward and looks up a bit.

DAWN
Come on!

IAN starts to breathe heavy, he throws his arms wide and starts walking sideways like a crab his body facing DAWN and the poorly hidden vending machine at all times.

DAWN (CONTD)
That's Brilliant, think what your dad say if he saw you now.

IAN
Stop being such a girl.

DAWN
Our Dad, I meant our dad.

IAN
I don't know, i've never met him.

DAWN
He'd say you're doing really well.

IAN
Would he?

DAWN
Yes he would Ian, Yes he would.

IAN reaches the door of the hotel and collapses through it. He stands bent over in the doorway breathing heavily.

IAN
Thank you.

IAN lopes off into the motel O.S.

DAWN gets off the vending machine, and shakes her head.

DAWN
(To Camera)
It's a shame.
(PAUSE)
He's forgotten his Bisto tin he'll have to go back and get it.

DAWN walks into MOTEL

DAWN
IAN! IAN!
